Oil additives poll

This is inspired by the STP thread on the Stories. What oil additive do you use? Is there a reason to use them? Is there a reason not to use them?

I've never used any oil additives, thinking that they're probably not going to make any positive difference, since I use good quality engine oil, but then again many mechanics that generally know their stuff, swear by some or other oil additive. I'm wondering what the general tendency among CF owners is...

I use Active 8 after seeing a test done on it, also some guys with a split screen camper had it in,dropped the oil and replaced it with water and took it for a run.

Hi Jim
Did you set the poll length to 1? The only way to alter it is manually in the database so let me know how long you want it to run and I'll edit the database for you.

No, left it as it was, thought the default was infinite.. Maybe 6 months? How long do they normally run for? Is the number in days? While you're at it, can you do the same for the gearbox poll on the Cross-Continent Trip thread? Thanks!

I've set them as permanent polls for now as I can't remember the UNIX timestamps which I would need to set an end date. If you want to end either/both of them at any time just let me know.
I've just altered the script so that if the poll length is left blank it defaults to continuous poll.

Perfect, thanks Colin! For such things, I guess permanent is good as default since it will allow new members in the future to also vote.

You hit it Rae!. When I worked for a firm with a fleet of yellow motors, it was cheap oil (re-constituted), but changed on a monthly basis. Used oil drips off the dipstick. Fresh oil tends to treacle (should that be trickle) off. Additives just lengthen the molecules, making the oil stick better to the metal. use the cheapest if you must, but a filter and fresh oil, regularly, cant be beat.
