Very impressive.
Are you still in Kazakhstan or did you do the return trip as well?

Great news jj and the fact that you got the Bedford going again 26 times over is another reason for keeping these great vans on the road.

I assume all the breakdowns were the van or was one or two your mates

Hello JJ,
So impressed with this journey I googled it on Google Maps; 3695 miles, 3 days and 6 hours...well, that's by computer. I think it would be very interesting if you would share with us the tales of your journey.

Hi,
Was this the Mongol charity rally you were doing. A few lads from work done the last one in a GMC ambulance and broke down heaps of times.

The roads in Kazakhstan keep you well on your toes. Don't fancy taking my camper on some of the dirt tracks I have driven on there.

Haha, if only we could drive as well as google maps assumes...speedo clocked the journey as being just over 8000miles in the end, though we didnt take the most direct route by going south through Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan etc.
Will try and work out how to post some photos up when I can.
And yes MGP this was the Mongol Rally, the original aim was to get all the way to Mongolia but our little beauty took a knock in Turkmenistan and so we managed to coax another 2000km out of her before having to leave her in Almaty (Kazakhstan)...we'd managed to bend the crankshaft and in doing so had smashed some of the bearings
Unfortunately no spares of that sort in that part of the world!
Journey took us over mountains in Turkey, forging rivers in Kazakhstan and through 50*C deserts in Turmenistan and Uzbekistan but in the end it was human error which brought it all to an end, absolutely gutted!

Wow... I take my hat off to you guys..! And there's me thinking that I've been far in my Beddie..

I find that Google maps is always a few thousand miles off on long distance cross-continent trips as well.

TWENTYSIX breakdowns???? Impressive....... Even more impressive that it kept on going.. How did you guys manage to bend the crankshaft??

How was it with border crossings in that part of the world?

Which kind of CF was it? What sort of engine/gearbox etc? Stock or modified?

I'm well impressed, it's only a matter of time now before someone does the "round the world in a CF"...

Pictures and more stories would be most welcome!
