Help Please - wont start

Hi there

We are currently on a caravan site and our CF280 wont start.

We travelled approx 80 miles yesterday, stopping for petrol en-route with no problems.
Upon arrival at the campsite i switched the engine off to go and checkin for approx 2-3 minutes, i then tried to start up the camper and nothing. After rocking the rear of the van it started so we made our way to the pitch. We have tried to start her again today and again tried rocking the rear of the camper but it wont start.

I have been told we may need to hit the starter motor with a hammer but we dont even know where to look or what it looks like!!

(when turning the ignition the red battery light illuminates and the lights and horn etc. All work)

Any help please would be great

Many thanks
Kim

Remove cab engine cover for access to the starter motor.

Starter is the cylindrical object about 4 inch diameter on the right hand rear of the engine & is partly obscured by the floor edge under the clutch pedal.

Try turning ignition switch to 'start' then tap cylinder with a hammer.

If starter works then the problem probably is worn brushes so there's only a limited number of times hitting the starter will work before arcing will damage the armature; it's a get-you-home dodge, no more.

Thanks for the information. We did manage to locate the starter motor and give it a tap but still no joy with starting. The AA kindly helped bump start us and away we went!

Do you have any idea where we can get a new starter motor from please? We have a 1978/79 (old T reg) CF280 Advantura.

Many thanks
