Webber ich 34 carb emissions problems

I've fitted a new webber 34ich carb, it runs sweet but the hydro carbons and emission tests are 3 times what they would be, any suggestions?

If I could I would but it was totally knackered couldn't even adjust the needle so had to sit with foot on revs when stopping at junctions. :-) now it runs like a dream destroying the environment as image goes. Got until April till mot is due to sort it!

Well if hydrocarbons and CO are too high then you either have too much fuel or not enough air. Have you checked the air filter is clean? The next checks will be the float height (5.5-6.5 mm with carb top held vertically) and of course the mixture screw adjustment. Also, be sure your choke isn't somehow sticking.

Do have any idea if it is running rick at all speeds or just at tick over?

Oh yeah, good point. I had just assumed it was set up for a 2.3 slant, but if it just a generic purchase then it may well need re-jetting. another thing to check is that the carb is the 29mm venturi, not the 25 as for the 1.8L engine.

What size should the jet be? Have new plugs, leads and air filter fitted, when I take the screw out completely the c/o sits at 6.5.
Idle speed hydro carbons are at 3200 c/o is 8.9 when at about 2000 revs they drop to 2600 which is still way to high.
Thanks again
Roy

Co Hc.

Hi kosovokid,

It is getting way too much fuel through that carb and this will have coked up the backs of the inlet valves and the exhaust ports, try putting a cleaning agent into the tank and give it a good run at about 60mph for about ten miles.
I use a fuel cleaning additive before going for MOT and it does reduce the readings, last test readings were CO 4.50/3.10%, HC 1200/54PPM.

dOUG.
