Brake Fluid

Would it make a difference if I replace my brake fluid with DOT 4 instead of DOT 3? Thanks, Nick

General consensus via google search seems to be that because dot 4 has a higher boiling point it's advantageous if you use the brakes a lot,as in mountainous terrain.I read somewhere that you need to change all the rubber seals if you do swap though. Is it really worth the hassle?
I'm sure Gethin will give a more definitive answer later.

Thanks mate, just wasn't 100% sure. I'm putting in new brake cylinders, brake shoes, pull off springs, and have a service pack for the master cylinder, so hopefully they'll work great!

DOT 4 is a straight swap for DOT 3,

it will give you a more reliable braking system as its got a much higher boiling point, all brake fluid should be changed every 3 yrs as its absorbs water thus making your brakes spongy ..

dont use DOT 5 as this is the synthetic fluid and it causes a lot of problems as it will not mix with anything else and turns to jelly when it reacts with mineral brake fluid.
