My new obsession - The Beast - 1987 Bedford CF2 Pop top.

Here are a few pics of my new Van...

The story so far.....

Got my van 4 weeks ago, and its my new obsession, The van is in need of some tidying up, the body work and Engine are in pretty good nick, but the interior needs a refit...

So far I have taken the back door handle off and refurbed that, it was nearly hanging off, and had a bodge job trying to fix it, think it had superglue or araldite, and had smeared round the handle, the holes in the connecting bar were shot, and the handle was battered and hard to open, so I stripped the lot, filled an fettled the handle and barrel etc, I filled the chipped paint and sanded the door back, and have painted the handle.
That is now refitted, so the back is secure.

One of the bumpers was cracked, beyond repair IMO, so bought a new one, and I am currently cleaning them up and giving them a paint.

In removing the bumpers it revealed a bit of surface rust, so that's been cleaned up, and Kurusted, primed and painted, this is a stop it getting worse job, rather than a refurb, in time I hope to get a respray, but that's a year or 2 away at least yet......

The van had Porsche leather bucket seats fitted, but they must have been dwarfs, my head was in the head lining, and had to duck to look out the windscreen....lol.......the look of the seats does not fit the van IMO, also they are not the most comfortable on my fat ......so I bought some Bedford bench seats, thinking a straight fit to the original sliders, but no, I bought Bedford Truck seats, so the fitting were miles off......so this then led me to think about how to fit the seats, and as I was modifying the fittings, this led me to go for some swivel bases too, these are now all fitted, but I do need to add a second set of runners to allow the seat to move forward when swivelled or the door is in the way, but it will all fit in the end....lol.....the joys of solving problems as you find them.....

The next job is to remove the roof and get that water tight, in our recent monsoon storms, we did get a small roof leak, I think its a seam joint, but the roof does have a shed load of eye bolts, presumably to strap thing to the roof, anyway these are coming out, and I will fibreglass the holes, redo the roof lining, so its one piece, the refit the joints and hope to make it watertight again......

Then I can redo the interior....

The cab is getting new carpet and headlining, etc, and door cards, and the back will be ripped out and redone to suit the needs of me the missus and the dogs, (we have 2 English Bulldog puppies)

Hoping to have it somewhere near our first outing come the end of Sept, living in Yorkshire, its not far to the lakes and Dales, so plenty to see local before we set off on long journeys......

I will post some more pics as I go....

Cheers

Jon

Got to get a cheesy pic in somewhere.....

A tidy yoke.

Hi Fatjon73,

Not too much to do to put that campervan back on the road, you should have seen the state of mine when I brought it home!
Looks like you have already made a good start, I think I have one of those plastic corner bumpers but I am not sure which side it is but I can let you know, might not be perfect but a lot better than that one in the picture.

Also had the roof off to seal and repair.....when bought it had a load of eye bolts in the roof, Presume it was used to tie stuff down....

I had a leak in bad weather (the norm in Yorkshire) so I wanted to get it sorted...

The roof came off, both end panels off too, and they have been cleaned up and re carpeted....

I replaced all the wood, the 3 pieces that attach to the roof, I bought a plank of English Ash, and cut all 3 out of that....they look good, but will last for yrs......happy with it...

All screws were rusty, so that was the hardest job, getting all them out.....bought a dremmel, best tool for the job IMO....

The roof was fibreglassed on the underside, covering all holes, and I fibre glass filled the holes from the top, I silicone some strips of 3mm rubber to the wood beams, and then refitted the roof, screwing through using No8 Self tapers, a large steel repair washer and a large rubber washer, all sealed with silicone.....

So far so good, no leaks.....and its rained, also had the hose on and nothing.....so happy to start fitting the new innards....

My new wheels are now fitted, 16inch Steel deep dish.......looks good, but I may need to add some arches yet.....also looking for centre caps, once that's done I will post more pics....
