bedford 1983 2.3 diesel fuel tank

Hi my recently acquired Bedford Autosleeper (SV100 I think !!!) 1983 2.3 diesel - had fuel problems whilst getting it home. Decided to replace primer and filter but when took old one off the inlet hose is full of gunk, so gonna take tank off but have been advised might be better to replace tank rather than flush it. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement/refurb or if another tank from something else is useable ? I am in County Durham in the North East of England.

I am totally new to this but have a brother who is a mechanic and can do the work but he is used to working on newer cars and we would appreciate any advice :-)

Hi Tracey,I think you will find it hard to get a good clean tank as they are not made anymore.I would strip all of the pipes and tank and flush it clean,then you can renew any sus joints.Thats how I would do it in fact I did just that with my petrol tank and pipes + filter.Welcome to the club their is a lot of no how here.Cheers+Beers Jim.
