A ware warning for older Bedford's.

Hi to all,

With around one hundred and twenty thousand miles under its belt my Bedford has thrown up a distributor ware problem I have not ever seen before, ware on the drive slot at the base of the distributor, which allows a greater amount of float which effects the rotor and the points and can cause back-fire.
In my case the ware was so bad that it was causing the wrong cylinder to fire, ( back-firing) through the exhaust and carb.
The drive thouge on the oil pump is made of harder steel than the drive slot at the base of the distributor spindle shaft, so at high mileage excessive ware can
take place.

Test drive.Hi to all

Hi to all,

Repair work done and test drive went well so back on the road, having a spare distributor was good forward thinking, bought quite a long time ago and stored away in my spares cupboard.
Now hope that the weather allows me to get away again, this season will have to be extended well into November this year.

Distributor ware lift.

Hi to all,

Having measured the amount of lift through age and ware that can take place between the drive spindle of the oil pump and the slot in the base of the distributor drive gear, I have removed the distributor drive gear and fitted a spacer which still allows an amount of lift for heat expansion but stops the risk though age and ware of the drive being able to climb out and end up 180* out which cause my engine to fire on cylinder three instead of number one.
Which happened as I pulled away at a set of traffic lights on a cold engine, I think the guy along side me thought he had been shot.
