I saw my first ever Bedford today. We decided to get out in the car for a drive to a village or two to get some fresh air and stretch our legs. We took the wife's car, and she drove it, as I find that since driving my Beddy the little Suzuki Swift is a bit like a remote control car. Its got power steering, obviously, so in contrast to the Beddy you only have to sigh, gently, upon the steering wheel rim and you are immediately facing the other direction. Similarly when pressing the accelerator, it goes from 0-25mph immediately with no intermediary speeds at all. It does stop, fast, or faster. The gearbox feels like a victorian lightswitch and the layout is upside down, and you can't feel or hear the road or the engine at all. So as time has gone by I've increasingly found myself unable to drive anything other than my van.

Anyway, so we were driving round the Sussex downs, and tucked up the side of a rural farmstead type house was a bright yellow CF panel van. It was up a driveway though, on private land, at the side of the house. I insisted we double back and drive up there to have a look. Part of me wanted to drop a spotter's card, part of me wanted to see if the side panels on the passenger side were good donors for my own van .

My missus was not keen on driving up there. She's a bit timid and doesn't like confrontations and feared we might get in trouble for trespassing. I insisted though and up we went. The van was in a very bad way. Very rusty, obviously not a going concern for the owner at all, it had three flat tires and no plates.

I wanted to jump out and drop a spotter's card... my first one, I was so excited, but my missus, who was in the driving seat, got a case of the Texas Chainsaw Massacres and reversed rapidly back dow the driveway onto the main road and off.

So I have to go back in my own van sometime and see what I can find out. Despite the extensive rust the panels, from what I saw looked straight, and the rust hadn't eaten right through. It could be a donor vehicle with a bit of luck. I'm clutching at straws, but its worth a look.

I've carded two CF 'Autosleeper' type campers over this weekend. One, a CF2 that's parked 100 yards from my house, the other is a CF1 parked up along the sea front parade.

this one's a couple of years old now
but i might aswell upload 'em all

poor little lad is flushed with teething.

i was taken to the recovery guys depot when i broke down in the new ambulance,
recovery driver didn't want to take me all the way home, miserable g!t he
was, i was glad when someone else took over! anyway, in the little industrial
unit type area there was a garage, this was parked outside along with another
standard van, was it blue with a yellow stripe, or black,.. i can't remember but it was it was gone when i came back from the loo though, st leonards,. that was the place..

looking back at the picture maybe i'm confusing it with that transit in the
back ground,. but there WAS another bedford, honest!!

Better late then never!

Spotted on Friday the 20th May:

Red CF1 panel van on the A46 Evesham bypass, and a Facelift/CF2 Coach built camper on the A38 South of Exeter.

Both vehicles where heading is the opposite direction, so didn't get a long look at them, but from a glance both looked very shiny well kept examples.
Therefore I'd imagine there owners may be in the club
