Look after your Windscreen Washers

New old bedford CF - first problem, weak windscreen washer jets. Both balls fitted wrong way round. Treated them with a bit of descaler and tried to turn the first one round. It pops out, falls to the floor and remains lost 15 minute later

Confess to wife who wants to see the damage. I activate the washer and a short, thick jet of water squirst up from the gaping hole. So I stick my finger over the hole to demonstrate that at least I fixed the other one ... and with a pop the ball flies out of it, arcs high over wife's head and disappears into the grass

Some days you can't win. Ended up turning some replacements from brass and epoxying them in place!

I'm sure I may have a few spare jet units in my shed, plus other screen washer items, pipe etc. PM if needed and I'll have a look. Cheers, John.

Strangely enough whilst on the subject of washers i was checking mine out last week for the M.O.T and noticed that one of mine was blocked. So no problem i fired up the compressor unwound the air line ,pulled off the tube to the jet and lined up the air gun.as i could not reach both the underside and the top side of the bonnet at the same time i pulled the trigger underneath, with a pop out came the ball jet DOH. i thought that i heard a delayed dink so started a search of the surounding drive I thought typical booked in for M.O.T. tommorow and no washer valve. then i remembered the dink noise and out came the stepladders and low and behold there it was on the beddie roof. retrieved, fitted and flew through the M.O.T. with spotless windscreen. Do i need all this excitement at my age. regards David.

Trick that I found worked most of the time when I was mending fleet CFs was to poke through both jets in the ball then rotate the ball until it was back-asswards in the jet body to expose the drilling behind the jets, then hook out the forrin body, or flush it out with a squirt from the screenwash pump.

Balls swivel more easily if body is doused with hot water...
