CF250 Motorhome in a sad state of repair

Well, I had a bit of an impulse purchase about 3 weeks ago, and bought a 1982 cf250 Motorhome with 2.3 petrol engine and 4 speed manual gearbox.

It appeared that you could only start it with the leisure battery switched in. this was eventually solved by disconnecting all the motorhome wiring from the van wiring…. The main vehicle battery had one of those leisure quick connector attached via a 1.5 mm cable... causing slow engine turn-over. Battery connectors and cables replaced... now starts really easily.

Next the battery was not charging, so the alternator was replaced… now charging at 14.5v.

Inside there was evidence of water damage… although everything appears to be dry now. The wall and the cupboards were parting company; also the drawers were sagging to one side.

Brave or mad! I decided to rip all the cupboards out and repair the water damage before Malvern!!

Water damage was greater than first thought. I had to stripped out all the timber frame and windows

I will post some more updates as the story unfolds. Anybody got any tips for repapering the ceiling?

Keep up the good work. You have worked wonders in such a short time, it is looking good for malvern at the weekend. The last time i went the whole left outside of my van had a big hole covered with duck tape.
It's you and your family we want to meet, we are not there to criticise the vans. regards david.

Well with a couple on nice weekends I have managed to get outside and start re-installing the kitchen. Using the old sections of wood as templates I cut new sections out of ply and faced it with pine. It took a lot of custom fitting as the van wall had moved a bit, screwing the cupboard in tight bought everything back…almost inline. There is still just over a quarter inch bow in the side wall, but it is solid, so I have cut the work surface to accommodate this.

Overhead cupboards to do, but I think I’ll have to tackle the ceiling next.
