Hello all, I exspect some of you are wondering who Honington is. Well I am Graham Smith, & my wife is Pat. I had a mk1 van for work about 15 years ago, In 2004 I aquired 'Euey'a 1983 2.3 slant Facelift Florida motorhome. I'm surprised that it's kept going until late last year. (crank oil-seals & water leaks. So now it's engine out! My son has a good spare 2.5D Mitsubisi engine, we are looking at the possibility of fitting it. Has anyone done this? We hope to meet up with other members when we are mobile again. Cheers!

Good starting point.

Hi and welcome,

Any change of engine has its problems and I have done a few, none were easy, but one thing I learned before you start is to measure the engine and check the angle it has to sit at.
Check the height of the engine bay and its width, then do the same to the engine you are fitting.
I have seen so many converted night mares where the strength and structure of the motor has had to be cut away to make room.
If possable go for an engine that at least has the manifolds on the same sides as the engine that is coming out.
Measure the length of your new engine and gearbox to make sure you have room or you can make room safely.
One of the most common snags with Bedfords is the steering rack and flexi coupling.
The engine bay of the bedford is designed to take an inclined engine
so anything that sits upright is going to be a problem.

Be careful and take your time,
Doug.

Engine change

Hi Doug, Thanks for that, I've just this morning started removing all attachments (before the snow returns). I once changed a Rolls-royce B60engine in the desert! But I'm a bit older now (73).cheers graham

Strange.

Hi,

How strange I have done some odd things in the desert as well, like you a long time ago, clutches propshafts gearboxes radiators, mad.
But you are up for anything after that, except it is a lot more dangerous on the m6 or the m1 nowadays.

Regards, Doug.
