Hello!

Thought I'd best introduce myself on here. I have just purchased a 1971 Bedford Bedouin and half a vans worth of spare parts. She is a 2L 4 speed petrol, and runs very well considering she hasn't been on the road since 2000. I'm more of a biker than a car driver, and spend a lot of my evening spannering on 90's sports bikes.

I am totally new to Bedfords, and only really bought her because, in the words of my other half, "its cute". We wanted something a bit different from the transits and didn't want something quite as big as a Merc...the Beddy seemed to fit the bill and here I am...

No doubt I'll have loads of questions at some point, but just need to get her MOTd to begin with . Looks like I should become a card carrying member...

Cheers
Phil

Hip Phil and WELCOME to the land of Beddy-nuts. Being a card holding member would be a good move for you, as it will open up all the available information and help doors that this great club has at its disposal. You will soon find out too that your choice of vehicle and club will go hand in hand perfectly, leaving you without any doubts that you've done the right thing. WELCOME again. Cheers, John and Sue.

Thanks guys and gals. I'm getting her towed back to the girlfriends dads MOT station on Monday - I am one very excited person! Just need the brakes bleeding as far as I can see. The test drive was "interesting" with no pressure in the lines at all. I've got a spare engine to tinker with too - we'll see how she goes, but I'm quite tempted to whip the head off and get the valve seats hardened to take unleaded. also tempted by electronic ignition....oh dear, i can see this could get expensive

Just need to get it insured. The Mrs is only 23 so a lot of companies wont insure her on the van :-( Best quote so far is a whopping £540 fully comp! I insure 3 sports bikes for half that!:p

Insurance.

Hi again Phil. Can I suggest RH Specialist Insurance, which several members have had good quotes from, ourselves included and ours is now covered by them. Contact on: 01277 206911 and remember to quote the club as your source of information. Their underwriters are Equity Red Star. Cheers, John and Sue.

Thanks. I'll give them a go! A lot of classic insurers don't seem to insure people under 25. I even had one turn me down as I am under 30 (I'm 27)! My bikes are insured with Equity Red Star as a matter of fact.

Welcome!!!

Hi Phil - and welcome to the madhouse!!!

Good to see another Bedouin rescued for posterity...although yours looks in FAR better nick than mine...

Good luck with the MOT...

That is a very early Bedouin you have there - one of the first!!!! And still with most of the original furniture still fitted;]

Look after her and enjoy her to the full....
Cheers
Carl

Yep - RH covered me for very little money when I was younger than 27. Breakdown assistance and excellent service too!

Anyway welcome to the club Phil.

Thanks for the heads up on insurance. They came up much cheaper than everyone else so Beddy is now insured. he has brakes too, and is just going through the MOT. Fingers crossed!
