A need for spare parts.

Hi to all,

I find the supply of parts for Bedfords in my neck of the woods to be poor, would there be a market for second hand spare parts in the northern areas of the UK for Bedford CF.
I know of three Bedford CF campers in Scotland at the moment that are being sold for spares or repair, if bought at the right price and stored, would there be enough interest in the club for members to buy up parts as needed.
A price would have to be charged to cover overheads such as the rent of a storage unit and dismantiling and record keeping.
I would like to hear what all your thoughts are on this being set up in the mid Scottish area.

Doug.

Very quiet (Hello)

Hi again to all,

Forty have read this message but on one has made a comment, so you no like or you like, is it worth doing or not, there are at the last count thirteen members in Scotland and a lot more in the north of England.
Its not like you all to be so quiet!

Seek and you shall find.

Hi to all,

My old Bedshed has had a noise off the first and second gear and thrust race since it went on the road this year, and so the project for this winter is to repair the gearbox and replace the clutch.
But I have now been offered a five speed ZF gearbox out of a 280 diesel pickup, plus propshaft and rear axle, so this winter is looking busy.

Other clubs have tried your idea. It is difficult to take responsibility for parts, rent, breakages, post, things lost etc. Who pays the rent? What if it does not cover the costs involved? What if you wish to retire from the role? What if you make a mistake and need to refund the customer at a loss? Do you have to pay an accountant? Do you have to be licensed as a breaker? If selling parts you do.(think it is a 50 grand fine and/or 5 years in jail) Sorry to put a 'downer' on an idea that is only filled with good intent.

This has been tried before by Roi and it was not at all successful,
members who gave him spares to sell lost out when he left the club for no reason.

You will find that once bitten twice shy comes to mind.

You probably find that your new box will have a crawler first gear rather than an overdrive 5th.

Unless you have a ZF fitted you will need a different bell-housing,speedo cable, clutch cable, clutch arm, thrust bearing, propshaft, along with a different hole for the gear leaver to come through the floor.

Cheers Gethin

Well Gethin cheer me up why not,

The only part I have not got is the speedo cable, so I am on track and thinking on my feet, as for the crawler gear if you heard the noise from my present gearbox you would understand my thinking.
But I thank you all for your input and all of your views are of great value to me, thats why I asked for your feedback.

Hi to all,

There is a guy here in Perth selling up and clearing out a lot of Vauxhall and Bedford second hand parts if anyone in the club was interested.
So I have asked him to make up a list of spares and prices he wants for them, I have had a look at what he has in boxes and in his store room.
Here are just some of the parts;- Bonnet CF 2,-30.00
Grill CF 2,-10.00
o/s and n/s sill panels 250 short wheel
Front crossmember CF 250 petrol,-50.00
Steering rack CF 280 60.00
Three A/C Delco alternators 20.00each
Three starter motors 50.00each
Rear axle CF 280 60.00
CF pickup petrol tank 20.00
Two sets twin stromberg CD175carbs
Mounted on manifolds 75.00each
Rear wheelarch cover panels 5.00each
CF 2 front bumper 30.00

Cash on Collection only, (phone 07084877588.)
This is a local campany closing down and nothing to do with me, but I have bought some secondhand parts for my own Bedford.
