Hi Folks, another new guy
Hi folks
My brother bought a CF 350 diesel a few weeks ago and I had the pleasure *cough* of getting it thru a MOT, this vehicle had been stood up for 2 years, the metal brake pipes burst just putting it on the ramp at the testing station, it hadn't even got as far as the brake test.
That should have really set off a alarm bell of what the next 3 weeks would entale.
Lucky enough (or unlucky enough) i'm a mobile mechanic and the mot tester knew me and let me replace all the brake pipes while the vehicle was on the ramp.
then came the rusty brake drums causing problems on the brake test.
head lights out of alignment, rubber pipe used as a exhaust (gasp!)
missing wiring for the rear fog light.
after 4hrs work the mot tester passecd it (woop!) I think he wanted his ramp back 
Then the next 2 weeks I spent getting the interior lights to work, split charger, fridge, water pumps, some idiot put a electric radiator fan on it, sounds a good idea? only if it's going the correct direction, it was blowing the air out of the front of the vehicle (that explained the over heating problem.)
to be honest with you, the list of repairs I carried out was endless, if my brother was a paying customer I would have made a fortune (£££'s.) 
I fitted Firestone air assisted suspension to the back axle as it was like driving a bouncy castle  this helped 80%, it really needs a grand piano attached to the rear bumber to make it behave 'normal'
Anyway I didn't do all this work for the love of my brother, I wanted to use it to sleep in at the Great Dorset steam fair 
Last Thursday it got me there, with no breakdowns (only a few mmental ones of my own), Joining a motorway at 25mph is scary, and a top speed of 50 mph tells me that somebody failed to change the diff when the plonked a diesel engine in the beast, 
But it DID get me there (and back) and I loved every second of it
now I'm on the lookout for another diff.
Not so much of a introduction more of a epic read, good thing I kept it short and sweet

at least you can knuckle down and do things yourself mine had been at the mechanics since march 
nobody wanted to go near it i eventually found a 60 year old mechanic willing to take the big girl on , 6 months and counting hehehe
i wouldnt change he for the world

I know what you mean by 'scary' joining motorway at 25mph !!!.......I have a CF 350 also, if I were a man I think I would have the largest gonads around
My nerves have been shattered so many times now and am practically on first name terms with RAC/AA recovery people.
She is a as strong as a mule though, the drone of the perkins diesel engine makes you feel stoned !! She has had so much work done and is just about there.
Its hard for others to understand the love of these vehicles, but once smitten your hooked.
Hope you and your brother have great fun with her.

Hi Pete welcome to the club I have a CF350 runing on LPG I dread hills as it slows down so much but one has to realise not so much the age but the weight of these old bedfords, glad you having fun with it.

Hi Pete and welcome.
Dave, some people experience LPG power loss, so you could try switching back to petrol uphill.
