A useless woman writes...

I think I might just throw myself off the top of my Bedford. My husband (the one who didn't believe me when I said we had no oil - and then blew up the engine) forgot to put any anti freeze in. We did not start Bessie during the entire freeze but when we tried putting water in the system this weekend, it came out the bottom. Eeek. Feeling is, if it was a cracked block (and thus curtains for Bessie) it would trickle out but it actually comes out pretty fast. My husband scrabbled around underneath and thinks it's a top hose to the rad. My question is (and you thought I was never going to get to it) does this sound likely? Does a cracked block leak slowly as we fondly imagine? Could a seal have blown towards the front of the engine? Could it have blown a core plug and if so, where would it be? I feel that this may be the end for poor Bessie but Mr Anti Freeze is going to tip the cab - dismantling the luton - and see what is to be found. Yes, I know I could have thought of the anti freeze but I can't think of everything...

TK/TL?

Radiator can split & so can the hoses when the coolant freezes. Also some core plug/s may have pushed out.

Cracked block leak usually is a slow dribble & chances are that what has blown has saved the block from damage; cracks that I've come across have been after the engine has overheated.

Many thanks for that. As soon as we get some slightly warmer weather, my husband will dismantle the luton, tip the cab and see what's what. Here's hoping
