hello from jersey channel islands

hello from jersey i bought a mark 1 cf locally in april 2008 used it for the summer and its now in storage waiting for me to have funds to custom it i would like to convert it into a movie replica of the mystery machine from the first live action scooby doo movie

although i want to create a replica as close to this image as possible i would like to develop it further and add more of the oldschool vanning touches to it such as a spoiler maybe some side skirts aswell as the front bib and arches and going to this effort means i cant leave a standard engine in it so im looking at the small block chevy option im also hoping to have an interior thats ggreat for camping at events and also for use as a 7 seat party van im also hoping to make a cool custom trailer to house a trike and quadbike the quad being a replica of the yamaha raptor used in the movie and the trike a replica from the early days of the crtoon where scooby's cousin yabba used to ride around on a trike called the desert chopper jersey used t have a great van culture and a high standard of vans was present such as been trucking and robocop both cfs i was born just in time to barely remember these vans as a kid and id appreciate any help recomendations or advice for my project and also any info on the van scene past and present in jersey

this is my bedford in its current form infact this is the pic from the advert i bought it from thank you all for any help i receive cheers geoff (lostsheep)

yeah when i got the van it had the nsva on the sun visor so when i contacted them i met beefy through there and hes been really helpful with van matters since. As for full stops i will do my best but i'm terrible with grammar etc so tend not to bother. Just had nightmare trying to deal with a seized starter motor from my 2.3 Bedford cf2 donor van. In freeing the motor i broke a soldered connection which was a nightmare to re-solder but hopefully thats sorted now and will be returning to trying to get the engine to fire tomorrow. If so it will be removed from the donor and will be replacing the one in my cf 1 the last time the donor van was insured was in 1999. So any tips for getting the cf 2 motor to run again after such a lengthy time would be appreciated. I've already turned the motor by hand on the bottom pulley so i know the bores are free still. Im hoping its just a case of some fresh fuel and maybe a bit of attention to the ignition system and it will run. If so is there anything i need to look out for when transplanting a cf2 engine and subframe into an early cf1 body. Hopefully i can get my van out for its 40th birthday which the 24th of feb

this is my donor van.

Chassis brackets and control rod bushes for the CF2 are different. The CF1 chassis brackets will swap over to the CF2 axle beam (once the centre bolt in each bracket decides to move...) & it shouldn't matter which control rods are used as long as the suspension geometry (king pin inclination, camber angle, castor angle) checks out ok. Toe out on turns will be for the CF2 unless the CF1 is a late model one (1983 or thereabouts) - different steering arms, early ones cranked at the tie rod end.

To get the CF2 engine going first squirt a thin mix of engine oil & diesel fuel into the cylinders through the spark plug holes & let it soak in for a while. This can un-stick gummed rings as well as bump up the compression a bit and once the engine spins on the starter it can seal up any iffy valves.

If the engine fires at all then keep the starter spinning until it runs or stops firing altogether. If it stops firing then add some more diesel (about 20-30 ml per cylinder to fill the piston crown & spill down the bore) & give it another go. If the engine still refuses to run after a few doses of diesel then squirt some ether (EasyStart) into the intake. Expect a cloud of exhaust smoke at first when the engine runs.

Once the engine runs don't thrash it: fast idle should be enough at first & any clattering from the top end should clear up as the hydraulic lifters fill up with oil. One or two might take a while to sort themselves out - they'll be the ones that were holding a valve open when the engine was standing.

Have a look at the valve springs. I got caught by springs breaking on mine & I think it was down to the van not moving for ~15 years before I got it. Look for springs appearing to be bent sideways and, or, middle coils not evenly spaced, valve closed & valve open. Ignore taper on the exhaust valve springs - that's intentional. Pictures of the head on mine in bits here.
