engine overheating when going over 65 Hi all. My cooling is fine at speeds of 55 or less, but on the motorway when I go over 65ish the needle creeps up into the red. I had problems with overheating last year (when I last used it), and fluched the sstem getting loads of rusty crap out of the rad. I'm assuming the rad is a bit too worn, and would be best with a re-core (or does anyone know better?), so does anyone advise anyone to do the re-coreing (can post it, or near Northampton)? Got a long journey on holiday next week so would like to do it this week if possible - going 55 on the motorway gets quite tedious...Cheers, Dave | Sun 05 Aug 2012 @ 20:13 |

I was having similar problems last year, I disconnected and removed the rad, plugged up the bottom end and filled it with malt vinegar and soda crystals (drain cleaner) and boiling water, left it to stand for a while (maybe overnight) flushed and repeated, it came up really good and shiny inside and runs at correct temp now. You could probably just fill your entire cooling system with malt vinegar/water mix and run the engine for a few minutes then leave for a few hours and flush. you can get malt vinegar for pickling from green grocers or supermarkets very cheap (around (£1 per litre) ---------------------- | Mon 06 Aug 2012 @ 08:13 |

Overheating. Hi Middld,My quick and easy radiator clean out was with the help of a bottle of Mr Muscle from asda's, drained rad poured in Mr Muscle and Fill with hot water then went for a six mile run, drained rad and flushed though, worked a treat. Serves you right! That isn`t a sports car you are in charge of. Slow it and reap only benefits. ---------------------- | Mon 06 Aug 2012 @ 13:26 |

adrian bailey at http://www.roverland.eu managed to get me a brand new radiator in a few days whilst touring around the country. Even delivered it himself. If that's your plan he is your man ---------------------- | Mon 06 Aug 2012 @ 14:00 |

A few years ago the van (standard SWB van with pop roof) would do 70 on the motor way easy, and the temp never went above half way. I even took it to 80 once to see what it would do, but in the interests of engine life won't be doing that again... When doing the trip from northampton to devon I prefer to spend only 4 hours in a hot van with crying children rather than 6... I'l have a go with the vinegar tonight and report back ---------------------- | Mon 06 Aug 2012 @ 16:13 |

I just drove ours from gretna to Shropshire in 4 hours, 60 -70 mph (upto 80 at one point for a few moments!) 1 quick loo stop. no probs. Its a 3 speed auto the engine is at about 3000rpm at 60mph and 4000rpm at 70mph.. its happy at 70mph all day long but its LOUD! http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Gretna&daddr=52.8319,-2.27132+to:bridgnorth&hl=en&ll=52.78117,-1.947327&spn=0.855559,2.705383&sll=53.763115,-2.56469&sspn=3.344824,10.821533&geocode=FTUoRwMdHDPR_ym5QOqWjhV9SDH8fjuibMGTxA%3BFZwmJgMdqFfd_ymH0jadIXt6SDHwUffXnvkMEw%3BFbecIQMdGwHb_ykH1o4UC2JwSDGVsRLV4AwuZA&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=7&via=1&t=m&z=9 ---------------------- | Tue 07 Aug 2012 @ 20:10 |
