To habitation check or not habitation check

Hi,

I'm brand new to this, having joined this morning. I've posted an introduction in the introduction bit.

This is my first question of what I'm sure will be many as I get acquainted with my 1977 CB22 (which I think is actually a CB250)

I hit my first obstacle today and wondered if I could run it past you. I contacted a Caravan and Motorhome Servicing Centre near me as I really think it needs checking over - what with the age and the number of appliances: heater, oven, fridge and whatnot, and asked to book in. He actually turned down the business when I told him the make and age of the vehicle

He seemed to be suggesting that it wasn't worth doing a check on a vehicle that old. Has anyone come across this before?

I've done a search and found a similar thread, but it didn't seem to offer anything conclusive. I'd really like to hear opinions on this - it would help me make up my mind on what to do:

Is it worth getting a habitation check on such an old vehicle? Are there alternatives?

Being a new purchase and not knowing past history as such regarding gas appliances i would try and have them checked, peace of mind, anyone corgi registered can do the check, any caravan parks nearby? you could find the maintenance man, who`ll be certified to check gas appliances on the vans there, see if he`ll do it for a few quid.

I would agree with Alex although he's showing his age with the Corgi bit. It's Gas Safe now. The vehicle is new to you so just to be safe get it checked out. What about local caravan dealers? they should be able to point you in the right direction too. If you are going to use it before you get it checked out at the very least get a carbon monoxide sensor in the van.

Wise words indeed. It does seem a bit OTT to have a complete habitation service when I think I know what they are going to say(!). I did eventually find somewhere today who would look at it, but they quoted £200!

£200? I'm seeing a pattern here. It ain't cheap having one of these bad boys, is it?

I'll ask at my local caravan park, as you suggest.

Thanks for making me feel welcome. I can pretty much guarantee I'm going to be on here quite a bit for the foreseeable while I find my feet, so please bear with me. I'm pretty wet behind the ears, as you've probably noticed.

That could mean a leaking roof then

LOL. I strongly suspect that is something I'll be dealing with in the near future. Oh well. There's always the bivvy bag...
