gear box advice please...
Hello.
Once in a blue moon I make an appalling gear change out of first back into reverse. Thankfully this is rare but unfortunately on my way back from Goodwood revival tonight I did it. In the past it's just made a loud grumbling complaint, but this time it was a lot louder. Same kind of noise: the sound of two speeding metal shapes that aren't ready for each other, but it had a lot more more bark about it tonight.
Everything seemed to be fine. Drove home okay. No problems with gear box.
Got back and selected reverse to park and there was half a second of distinct grumping before it engaged. With the clutch still pressed it came out of gear, and then (with the clutch STILL pressed) back in again perfectly smooth and silent.
Back into neutral though I depressed the clutch, then re-pressed to select reverse and the same grumping sound... Clutch still pressed I came out of reverse then back in again smooth and silently.
Did this five or six times. Each time I tried to engage reverse on a new clutch press, it was grumpy but fine thereafter.
Anyone out the have any ideas about what might have occurred internally?
