Engine rattel Hi ,I have a 2.3 engine,When I start up from more than 2 day's standing it rattels like hell until the oil gets up.What I have done is treat with Silk 50 on the last oil change and put semi sinthetic 15 40.You could try changing the pump.It didn't help on mine.I would not us flushing oil as you can clean old engines too much.If you realy do want to flush the engine, buy a can of cheap oil and drop it when very hot.Don't for get to change the oil filter.I hope this helps.Cheers+Beers,Jim.---------------------- | Mon 03 Mar 2014 @ 20:34 |

DO NOT use flushing oil as it will damage the rubber seals in the oil pump and you end up with no oil pressure at all. A common fault of rattling is the wrong oil filter fitted as it will not have a none return valve fitted Another fault is the seals on the pick up pipe perishing allowing air to enter the pipe when the engine is not running, To remedy this you need to drop the sump though................. fitting another engine is ok so long as that engine is in good condition you could find that the replacement engine is in the same condition as yours if not worse though................ | Thu 06 Mar 2014 @ 20:26 |

2.3 engine just had a couple of quotes complete engine rebuild £1500. exchange engine £1900. not looking good although, Adrian bailey did say before going mad to check the oil pressure it may need a new oil pump. I have to do the engine before I have my gas conversion done. so I am inbetween a rock and a hard place, unless someone has a good engine they don't want. | Fri 07 Mar 2014 @ 19:18 |

In a few months time I will be in a position to re build engines for a lot less than what you have been quoted. | Sat 08 Mar 2014 @ 19:35 |

2.3 petrol engine I took the camper to the spray shop today and god was it hard. the engine sounded like it was dead. it would rev but not clearly that rattle got worst a load of banging through the exhaust. I decided that I would have to have a new engine. in an exchange engine are all the parts brand new or are there parts which the engineer looks at and think there's nothing wrong with that we'll use that again. if that's the case then I will have a rebuild. what do you think | Fri 14 Mar 2014 @ 17:09 |

2.3 petrol engine just an update I have been in touch with AB and he has explained to me how he rebuilds his engines and the only part he doesn't use as new is the camshaft explaining that they very rarely have a problem with as they are always covered in oil but he checks them first to make sure there is no problem. everything else is new, he is emailing me with the full details of what I get. it is also not an exchange deal so if anyone needs a cyl. head etc let me know | Sun 16 Mar 2014 @ 21:41 |
