You say the engine has had new gaskets all through but the head is not torqued,this could be where the hissing is from.Did you have the head machend flat?With you starting the engine in this state you may be doing it harm.Check the head and torque it down as should be,then lisen for hissing.Cheers+Beers,Jim. ---------------------- |

oil in water and water in oil is a bad thing you need to flush both out and find out where the fault lies. the sound could be the oil pump grinding as its contaminated with water. another place to check is the inlet manifold, this can cause weird noises if not fitted properly |
