New Lady Autosleeper stalling HiWe have just bought an autosleeper (it's had its shell painted a bluey/green which is very distinctive) on a Bedford CF 1981 - think someone called Graham B..... was in this club and had her at one time? At least there's some paperwork in the van with his name on so I put 2 and 2 together. We bought it from somone who had pretty much just stood her for months and she had a lot of backfiring to start with. He replaced the distributer and we drove her from Manchester to South Wales without incident (apart from very floppy wing mirrors which are scary on the motorway!). We parked her facing uphill overnight and since then, she just feels like the choke is wrong all the time - stalls at every junction and doesn't really want to get going again. Just splutters at low speeds. Any ideas? And any news on Graham? | Mon 07 Sep 2015 @ 12:15 |

Timing and fuel. Hi girlinblue,Start by checked the timing and the fuel supply, sounds like it is getting away too much fuel but make sure it is clean fresh fuel you put in the tank. Get the spark plugs out the colour will show you something of what is going on in the engine, give it a compression test, you need to have at least 100 psi on each cylinder. Black or oiled up spark plugs or very burnt out plugs you don't want to find, when running at temp and off choke you want nice coffee coloured spark plugs. doujoy ---------------------- | Mon 07 Sep 2015 @ 17:18 |

Hello. Do you have a tickover at all. If not check the fuel shut off solenoid on the side of the carb is working as this will starve the engine of fuel at low revs if not operating properly. Could be muck in the carb after a long run so check all the jets and float bowl are clear of muck. Andy ---------------------- | Wed 09 Sep 2015 @ 09:38 |

It's going to be this weekend before we can look at it, but if it gets to what would be tickover speed, it just stalls...so I guess no tickover... ...that's another thing to try. It was almost empty of fuel when we bought it and we filled it right to the top, so Im thinking there's some rubbish in the tank... | Wed 09 Sep 2015 @ 13:53 |

Thanks for all the help....the wire had come off the carb solenoid! We plugged it back on & it worked fine...lovely tickover. Now all we need to do is figure out why the sidelights are on all the time...even after the key is out & all the switches are off! We had to disconnect the lights so we don't drain the battery. The older vehicle. Hi girlinblue,Old motors are like old violins in the right hands they can be finely tuned to run sweetly and to people who buy them and put in the time and some money they make there own music and give great pleasure. doujoy ---------------------- | Mon 14 Sep 2015 @ 20:26 |
