Never mind the jokes--- Safety gear is NOT to be sold for use. The chances of that item being in 100% condition is not a good bet. Would you let your nearest and dearest (better change that) would you go up a forty foot pole wearing safety at a price? From experience, used equipment should be destroyed before disposing it, to avoid it getting on the market. ---------------------- |

Sorry Bob,have to disagree there. As long as the gear is checked,I don't see a problem with it being used. It's no different to a single owner using it for years regularly as it being used once then passed on to someone else. I've bought a second hand harness that has many years use left in it.I checked it over & there were no worn areas or loose stitching.I'm perfectly happy climbing a 60+ foot tree with it.I've also bought a used cambium saver that I will be using in the summer. The only thing I won't buy secondhand are carabiners or rope. ---------------------- |

By strange coincidence I sat a three day course on inspection of lifting equipment two weeks ago. We wear harnesses for work and all harnesses, chain blocks and lifting equipment was sent out to be inspected every 6 or 12 months. It's now down to me to inspect ![]() ---------------------- |

How do you define professional?I've had no professional training in testing harnesses but I consider myself competent enough to do it,certainly for my own use. I've been sewing leather for long enough to know if stitching is secure.Webbing harnesses aren't that different.I even make my own webbing straps & lanyards. ---------------------- |

I suppose it would be different for you as it's for personal use but if, like mine, it's for work the inspector would have to be suitably trained by a recognised training company and competent to do the inspection. I've been sewing leather for long enough Hmmmm.....my red leather pouch is looking a bit worn. Could you make me a new one ![]() ---------------------- |
