Aluminium extrusions
Hi all, I have recently acquired my first motorhome, a 1983 Bedford CF1 Travelhome S and think it is brilliant, really looking forward to getting out and about in it, but as can be expected there is a bit of work to be done first.
I found some serious damp, followed by serious rot in the luton bed area and so have stripped it back to the metal and pulled out the old decayed seals in anticipation of re-fitting it.
I was wondering if anyone knows where you can source the original aluminium corner extrusions/inserts or if they're no longer available another type that would suit the same job.
On another note, I see a lot of people saying not to use silicone for seals, is it generally not recommended to use silicone anywhere on the camper, what is the most suitable alternative?
Thanks in advance!

Silicone.
Hi Ewan,
I have used white silicone in my old Bedford for years and going by what I have found while repairing leaks those who have owned it before me have use a lot of the stuff.
I take it these extrusions are internal supports and are something you would have to have made up or replaced with another type, maybe a caravan dismantler would be worth a call.
That is where I got replacement windows and some plumbing parts I needed.

Sikaflex is a polysulphine sealant and is excellent stuff, have used it in marine applications a lot over the years, it has much more 'stick' than silicone and once sealed up with it (sikaflex 221) on chemically clean surfaces it is good for many years.
