Is there anything wrong with the existing engine? The reason I ask is because some members have converted their engines to run on gas which should be more economical. ---------------------- | Tue 30 Jul 2019 @ 23:19 |

Unless you're a gas engineer it would probably be better to get a professional company to do it.It would still have to be certificated even if you were competent enough to do it.If I recall correctly,it involves work on the head & hardened valve seats. Replacement engines: Any engine could be made to fit dependant on how much work you want to do.As for economy,a lot of that is down to how the vehicle is driven.Basically it depends on the nut behind the wheel! ---------------------- | Thu 01 Aug 2019 @ 18:54 |

no matter which engine you fit in your beddy it will never be economical as the rear axle will be the deciding factor though as you have a twin wheel base box it will be a low ratio axle so you will be limited in speed and have a massive drag Depends on what conversion you want to do to the box section will decide on your power and drive train | Wed 07 Aug 2019 @ 16:07 |

Replacing the Bedford 2.3l engine When it came to recondition or replace my Bedford engine, i choose to replace it with a Ford Sierra engine and gearbox. The reason i went for the Ford was..I could fit it without cutting the floor or replacing the diff, as these short stroke engines love to rev. Being an all cast iron block and head meant that it could overheat without blowing the head gasket. By replacing the clutch and flywheel with one from a transit and fitting a transit gearbox with overdrive [ex ambulance] i have a far better range of gear ratios. This unit is dedicated LPG and to boost torque i fitted a turbo, it now has the performance to keep up modern traffic. The engine is the single OHC 'pinto' 2 litre and i get 4.5 km per litre of LPG. | Thu 16 Apr 2020 @ 05:42 |
